Fabulous Fat Quater Book & Fabric Giveaway!

I have been lucky enough to be given a copy of 'Fat Quarter: Quick Makes' and 'Fat Quarter: Home' by Amanda Russell and Juliet Bawden to review on the blog. One lucky reader can win a copy of both of these lovely books plus a bundle of 6 gorgeous fat quarters from Sew Scrumptious (You'll need some fabric to have a go at all the lovely projects!). Just leave a quick comment at the end of the post saying why you want to win this lovely parcel of goodies.

Fat Quarter Quick Makes is a lovely soft back book full of quick and easy projects made from fat quarters and even smaller pieces of fabric.

Its full of colourful photography using gorgeous fabrics with some great projects for beginners, children and more advanced crafters alike. The projects include mobile phone covers, bibs, book bags, cushions, bunting, camera straps, pattern weights, fabric flowers and an eye mask. There are some great projects that would be perfect for making as gifts.

My 11 year old daughter loved this book and was inspired to go off and make her own version of this tent tidy for her sewing bits and bobs.

We also loved the fabric flowers - a great project for children.

and the knitting bag. Perfect for all us crafters.

Fat Quarter Home is very similar in style but has 25 projects designed specifically for the home again using fat quarters and smaller bits of fabric.

Projects include a tea cosy, tote bag, plastic bag tidy, lavender bags, hot water bottle cover, wash bag, storage buckets, cushions and door stops amongst others. It is also full of inspiring photography and uses modern, vibrant fabrics that make you want to have a go at making the projects. It has step by step photographic instructions and both books have information about the materials, equipment and basic techniques that you will use as well as patterns.

I'm really looking forward to making some of the bathroom storage buckets.

Tooth Fairy Cushion Tutorial

You will need:

2 FQ's of cotton fabric.
(One for the front and pocket and a co-ordinating fabric for the back)
We used Michael Miller's Bot Boy and Bot Dot fabric. You can find a great selection on the Sew Scrumptious website.
Stuffing

You can download the tooth fairy cushion pattern for FREE on the Sew Scrumptious website and find a great video tutorial on the Sew Scrumptious You Tube channel.

How to Make:

Print out the pattern or make your own. You need a square approx 17cm x 17cm and a pocket approx 13cm x 9cm. You can make any size that you like.

Cut one large square from each fabric and one pocket piece from the main fabric

Press down half inch at the top of each large square (towards the back of the fabric) then fold back up. This will help you at a later stage.

Making the pocket:

Fold the pocket in half and pin (Make sure you think about the pattern on the fabric and which bit you want to see on the pocket front). Machine sew down each short edge leaving the long edge open.

Clip the corners

Turn inside out and press flat

Zig zag along the bottom edge to neaten and prevent fraying.

Press over a small amount towards the back of the pocket to make a crease

Place the pocket face down on the back fabric piece of your cushion making sure that when you fold it up again, it will be central. Pin along the zigzaged edge.

Machine sew along the pressed crease you made earlier

Fold pocket back up and pin both sides in place

Machine sew down each side.

Making the Cushion:

Pin the fabric squares together (pattern sides facing) and sew down one side along the botton and up the other side leaving the top side open.

Clip the corners.

Turn inside out and press.

Press in the top half inch along the lines you pressed earlier.

Fill with stuffing until a nice shape.

Pin the top edges together. Sew all along the top by machine or by hand if you prefer. This can be a bit fiddly. Try and squish the stuffing towards the bottom while you are doing this.

Print off the tooth fairy poem onto card and pop in the pocket.

Wait for the tooth fairy to arrive!

Fabulous 'Guess How Much I Love You' Fabric Giveaway!

We are absolutely loving the new 'Guess How Much I Love You' fabrics from Clothworks which are now available on the Sew Scrumptious website. I used to read this lovely book to my children all the time when they were tiny so it has a bit of an emotional pull for me.

They are absolutely beautiful so I thought that it was time to have another giveaway. I have put together a FQ bundle of all the new fabrics for one lucky person to win.

The bundle includes a FQ of each of the following fabrics

The giveaway ends on the 28 February 2017 at 12pm. UK residents only I'm afraid.
